RS1DB0419 DS Wt. .435 gms. Mexico. 4 Reales, No Date-M-L (Mexico City). Carlos & Joanna, 1516-1556. Probably late coinage (1542-1555); small central design. Crowned arms of Castille and Leon. Reverse: Crowned pillars over waves, motto between; value below. It is designated as “DS” as it is a double struck coin. The pillar and crown on the right as well as the shield on the reverse both display double struck dies, contributing to the uniqueness of each coin. Weight of .435 gms is significant as it shows little deviance from minted weight. Shows some wear as it is a shipwreck coin but still of very good quality. Assayer: Luis Rodriguez. The care obviously taken in the minting of these coins is most impressive. Recovered by Deep Blue Marine, Inc. Certificate of Authenticity provided with purchase.
