RS1DB0500 C-21 Wt. .208 gms. Mexico. 2 Reales, No Date-M-G (Mexico City). Carlos & Joanna, 1516-1556. Probably late coinage (1542-1555); small central design. Crowned arms of Castille and Leon. Reverse: Crowned pillars over waves, motto between; value below. Choice sharp strike, perfectly centered on round flan. Weight of .208 gms. Shows a slight deviance from minted weight. It was part of a larger conglomeration of coins which was designated as RS1DB10500, hence the same number as other coins, but designated as C-21. Shows some wear as it is a shipwreck coin but still of very good quality. Assayer: Juan Gutierrez. The “Carlos and Johanna” coinage of 1536-1555 is complicated and difficult to disentangle and difficult to disentangle as records are sparse and the coins are not dated.
